Jip Jip Rocks Shiraz 2007
Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age, Epicure, November 2008.     (Return to Vintage Detail)

Padthaway, north of Coonawarra, was planted with vines in the 1960's as a high-quality rival for its famous neighbour. Now it is best known for good calue wines like this one. It has a richly fruity nose of stewed blackberries and spice. The palate has lots of flavour, good depth and some raw astringency underneath. Good with robust food. (14.6% alcohol; screw cap)

Ageing? Yes, two to five years
Food ideas: Barbecue kebabs; Chinese rice noodles with braised beef.
Stockists include: Nillumbik Cellars, Diamond Creek; Dan Murphy stores.
